We had two ways to go to our school. One way was for those students who come by walking and other was leading to the bus station and was for the students who go home in the public bus. I had to use the first way. There were many houses on the side of the way. There were also many trees on the both sides of the road, which were enough to protect us from bright sun and give us some shade. As the bell rang, I said good-bye to my friends. I have learned that none of them was walking to their home. Everyone was from the next town and had to go home by bus.
I started to walk alone to my house. `Hey you, ’ I heard a sweet voice from behind. I looked around no one was there in the road, so it must be me who she is was calling. I stopped myself and turned around. I saw a girl walking towards me; she had a beautiful smile on her face, which is the first thing I noticed. I turned around one more time to make sure she called me itself. I don’t know who that was; I haven’t even seen her in my life. Who is she? Why is she calling me? And how did she know me? Questions popped in my head as she walked towards me.
I checked her again. She was not the most beautiful girl you can find in the world. But she was beautiful. And I was sure that she had the most beautiful smile that I have ever seen in my life. And she was from a religious Hindu family. I knew it because of two reasons. First one is she still has a mark with chandanam [sandalwood] on her forehead. Second reason is I have always noticed that, Hindu girls who go to the temple or pray daily will have a special shining on their face. It was a unique feature about Hindu girls only. I always admired Hindu girls for this shining face. And this girl too has that shine on her face. `You are Rashi, right?’ She asked me. `Do I know you?’ Instead of replying her question, I asked a question back. `I’m your classmate, ’ she said `Oh! Really? I mean…. This was my first day in the school, so I wasn’t able to get to know every one of you,’ I said to her thinking how on earth I didn’t see this girl the whole day after spending all these time in the same classroom? My thoughts were distracted by her words `by the way I’m Aishwarya, ’ `It's nice to meet you Aishwarya, ’ I told her. `So, are going home? Or for some shopping? Where is your house?’ She asked. `Oh, going home; my home is next to the mosque in the town, ’ I replied her. `My house is near to cinema hall’, she said as if she knew I was going to ask it. `I have zero friends from that region. So I don’t know much about that place, ’ I said to her. `Who else is there in your house?’ She asked me again. `My brother, my father and mother is living with me. My elder brother is in Middle East and my sister is married. She is living in her husband’s house,’ I said to her. ‘What is your father? And what about your mother, what she do for a living?’ She asked as soon as I finished my answer. `My father owns a small jewelry shop in the next village. And my mother is a homemaker,’ I said to her. `What about your parents? What did they do for living?’ I asked her. `Well, my father is working as an accountant in a private bank in the nearby town. My mother, just like yours is a homemaker,’ she said. `Where is your brother working? And what is his doing there?’ She asked again. `Well, he is in Jeddah now. He is working as a salesperson in a shop, ’ I answered her. `How long he is been there?’ She asked again. `It's been three years, ’ I said back to her. `Tell me about your younger brother, ’ that was her next question. `Well, he is in 8th standard. He is still studying in my previous school, ’ I answered her last question. `Is there anyone in your home I should ask about?’ This time I asked her. `Oh yeah, I have a younger sister. She is studying in 7th standard now. She is studying in the school in the town itself, ’ she said to me. `I haven’t seen you anytime before. How long you have been living here?’ She asked me again. `Well, I’m not that guy who hangs out with anyone you meet. I don’t talk too much until I feel comfortable with other people. So I don’t have too many friends. And that must be the reason you haven’t seen me, ’ I said her. By that time, we reach in front of my house. I said her good-bye and walked in to my home. `Well that was a good day, ’ I said as soon as I entered my house
